The Maintenance Guide
Does your shiny new faucet look dull or spotty just weeks after installation?
In Bangladesh, we face two major enemies of bathroom fixtures: high humidity and iron-heavy water. If you don’t clean your premium faucets correctly, the moisture in the air and the chemicals in your soap can damage the beautiful chrome finish.
Many homeowners make the mistake of using harsh toilet cleaners (like acids) on their taps. Stop immediately! This destroys the protective layer.
At Harrington, our faucets are engineered with a durable chrome finish, but they need the right care. Based on our official Maintenance Standards, here is the correct way to keep your faucets sparkling for a lifetime.
1. The Golden Rule: Never Spray Directly!
This is the #1 mistake people make.
- The Risk: When you spray a cleaning solution directly onto the faucet, the mist seeps into the tiny openings and crevices (like the handle gap). Inside, it can damage the internal cartridge and mechanical parts.
- The Harrington Way: Always spray your cleaning solution onto a soft cotton cloth first, then wipe the faucet. This keeps the liquid on the surface where it belongs.
2. Say “NO” to Harsh Chemicals
Your bathroom faucet is not a toilet bowl. Never use cleaners that contain:
- Hydrochloric Acid, Formic Acid, or Acetic Acid (Common in cheap toilet cleaners).
- Bleach or Chlorine.
- Phosphoric Acid (Use only in limited quantities).
- Abrasive Detergents.
Warning: Using these chemicals can cause the chrome to peel or turn black, which is not covered by warranty. Use only mild, designated sanitary cleaners.
3. Avoid Scratches: Ditch the Sponges
You might think scrubbing hard will remove water spots, but it actually ruins the finish.
- Don’t Use: Abrasive sponges, scouring pads, or even microfiber towels (which can sometimes be abrasive).
- Do Use: A clean, soft cotton cloth. It is gentle enough to polish the chrome without leaving micro-scratches.
4. The “Body Care” Danger
Did you know your shampoo and body wash are dangerous to your faucet? Residues from liquid soaps and shampoos contain chemicals that can eat away at the metal if left to dry.
- The Fix: After every shower or face wash, rinse your faucet with clean water to remove any soap foam. Then, wipe it dry.
5. clogged Flow? Use “QuickClean” & Disassemble
Is the water pressure feeling low? In Dhaka, lime and calcium deposits often block the aerator (the mesh at the tip of the tap).
- For Faucets (Disassemble Clean): You don’t need a plumber. Simply unscrew the aerator (you can often use a coin for this!). Rinse the mesh thoroughly with water to remove the dirt and screw it back on.
- For Shower Heads (QuickClean): Harrington shower heads come with flexible silicone nozzles. You don’t need tools—just gently rub the silicone nozzles with your finger while the water is running. This instantly breaks up lime deposits and restores the flow.
Summary: The Daily Routine
To keep your Harrington bathroom looking like a 5-star hotel:
- Don’t spray the tap directly.
- Rinse off soap foam immediately.
- Wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth.
Preserve the shine, preserve the luxury.
